Ciao Paola,

Moreover, no columns or capitals *cannibalized from other monuments* ever found their way into this mausoleum. The delicate ring of double columns that supports the dome was made expressly for the structure.

On *architectural cannibalization*, after papacy's return to Rome in 1420 - "We do know that a substantial architectural heritage, albeit much reduced, still existed at the time Martin V brough the papacy back to the city. Over the next two hundred years it became common practice before building any new structure to first identify the precise ruins to be *cannibalized* for their materials."

As a result, sadly, Mulla Ashur/Mulla Garji seems fated to disappear through *cannibalization of its structure* for new buildings.

In other words, the final ecclesiastical phase saw the *cannibalization* of the earlier church buildings and their accompanying furnishings for use in construction.

The madrassa of Qalawun was built with stone
*cannibalized *from the pyramids and other buildings, and included a public library.

At this point high quality materials were cut from extant marble supplies, stockpiled from an earlier age or plundered as *spolia*

Cmq è difficile tradurre questo termine - "cast-off" oppure "recycled"....
