Italian term
Piccoli Operatori Economici
Not for points
Italian to English
Bus/Financial
Business/Commerce (general)
I'm trying to establish if this is in technical terms 'small businesses' or 'very small businesses'. It would be a business with less than 10 employees and /or turnover of 2.5 million euro

"small economic operators"
I translate it like this, making sure that the context explains what it means. It is specific to Italy. It includes self-employed people and very small businesses. Freelance translators are POEs.
The Italian economy is peculiar in that it has very large numbers of very small businesses and therefore it has a specific classification system, which is different in other countries, where larger firms are the norm.

In banking marketing terms, corporate customers are divided into large, medium and small, followed in size by the POEs.

small businesses
You haven't given any context, but there's no official definition of small businesses - it means what you want it to mean. I consider myself to be a small business.
Note from asker:
Thanks. I stuck with small businesses in the end and made sure it was clearly defined. |
