Since this is about images, the first thought that comes to mind is "in negative" with all the bits of the bit image reversed where the Italian is a very poor attempt to render the English term "in negative" in Italian. The Italian term is not used in any related sense:

could this be a sort of "read only" memory as the memory seems to be a duplicate back-up using the previous state and which cannot be changed. Just an idea. I am not absolutely sure, thus the medium level.
