Tra l’altro, qui conviene aprire una parentesi su cosa si intende effettivamente per organico, perché da una sponda all’altra dell’Atlantico le opinioni sono diverse: in Europa la pianta di cotone deve essere assolutamente naturale, mentre negli Stati Uniti l’importante è il processo certificato, mentre la pianta può essere una selezione (Ogm).

Common English language usage to refer to Europe (particularly the UK) and America (particularly the US) as the two sides of the Atlantic. It's funny that the Italian original should use such a common, English turn of phrase that is not so common in Italian!

views in the US are different from those in Europe. NB 'between' the two sides of the Atlantic there is only the ocean :)
