Italian term

eteroplasia ovarica

Italian to English Medical Medical (general)
This is not primarily a linguistic Q, but a content-related question:

"Il quadro generale, suggestivo per eteroplasia ovarica bilaterale (di tipo endometriode?), necessita di videat chirurgico ginecologico."

I cannot find any reference for either 'ovarian heteroplasia' or 'heteroplastic ovaries'. I only found one ref for "heteroplasia of the ovarian germinal epithelium".

Does anyone have a deeper understanding of GYN?

Thanks!

Discussion

Joseph Tein Aug 28, 2021:
Very helpful Ciao Lirka ... thanks for this timely help with my proofreading project tonight :) (I always check anything that I have the slightest doubt about.)
Lirka (asker) May 28, 2015:
It's ovarian cancer. As Andrea indicated, it's "colloquial" for neoplasia. Further context confirmed it in my case.
EleoE May 28, 2015:
Google gives me more than 26000 hits for heteroplasia: https://www.google.it/?gws_rd=ssl#q="heteroplasia"
However, they mostly refer to osseous heteroplasia.
Anne Schulz May 25, 2015:
Statistically speaking (in terms of frequencies of those disorders which could be described as an 'eteroplasia ovarica'), this is most likely ovarian endometriosis/endometrioma. <br />On the other hand, I find as few as 5 G-hits for 'eteroplasia ovarica' (one of which is this thread), hence, it seems to be individual language use of a few physicians and might best be handled with a translator's note.
Lirka (asker) May 24, 2015:
Now the really important question is whether the doctors used this colloquial ( though inappropriate) term of eteroplasia to mean 'tumor' or simply heteroplastic changes in the ovaries. This is an important distinction and I wish additional people would comment here. Thanks a lot!
Lirka (asker) May 24, 2015:

Example sentence:

Women can suffer of benign tumour to the ovarians

Le donne posson soffrire di tumoni benigni alle ovaie.

Note from asker:
Although your suggestion in English doesn't fly with me ("to the ovarian" and "tuomour"), I HAVE drawn on your idea ( particularly that 'eteroplasia means tumor) and it have helped me research iit further and find the right answer. Heteroplasia ( coll)= neoplasia. Hence, I am awarding 3 points.
