See Field I should clarify that I'm asking within the heading physics, I believe more specifically electronics. I understand that Fourier's theory may touch on it. I don't know if all that makes any difference.

third harmonic

The third harmonic of a guitar string is produced by adding two nodes between the ends of the guitar string.
