Italian term

un approccio di sviluppo locale umano e sostenibile

Italian to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. Charity website
The complete sentence for this phrase reads:

"Facilita e sostiene l’implementazione di politiche interne e di cooperazione coerenti con un approccio di sviluppo locale umano e sostenibile, che prevedano partecipazione attiva dei cittadini e garantiscano trasparenza decisionale."

I know that I can use the term "local human and sustainable development" but I don't see how I can incorporate "approach" into all of this.

I began translating as: "Enabling and supporting the implementation of internal policies/politics and of consistent co-operation...." then it gets difficult. I am aware I probably need to restructure this, but can't think of the best way of doing this to keep both the meaning and an English flow to the text.

Discussion

Lorraine Buckley (X) Mar 24, 2011:
meaning and 'international developmentese' flow In int'l coop'n & devpt translations there is a lot of standard jargon. If you wish to reproduce that, you might consider 'fostering and supporting the implementation of domestic and international cooperation policies in line with/consistent with... plus Thomas's suggestion, which would flow very well in pure developmentese!
Miriam Hurley Mar 23, 2011:
coerenti Hi, Your problem is your reading of coerenti which is an adjective for policies... "internal cooperation policies consistent with an approach of local, human and sustainable development..."

a local, human, and sustainable development approach

"with" precedes it. Would it be "human" or "humane" - or maybe "compassionate:' instead ?
