Russian to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)

Yuri_S re: monetized: the word "" has become a buzzword recently - there's a lot of talk about " " - ie giving people (esp. pensioners) money instead of benefits, such as free use of public transport.
would the phrase "the sector is the least monetized:" be understood as "not many settlements in the sector are made in form of cash [implying that barter accounts for nearly half]"?

With the correction, the term, as Yuri suggested, should be monetarized, many examples of which can be found in Google, one of which is given below.

Mikhail Zurabov announced yesterday that in 2005 citizens would be free to choose for themselves what they prefer - benefits in kind (medicine) or cash

While touring the Samara region, Health and Social Development Minister Mikhail Zurabov announced yesterday that in 2005 citizens would be free to choose for themselves what they prefer - benefits in kind (medicine) or cash. Those who opt for cash will have their monthly benefits increased by 450 rubles in 2006. In 2005, benefits for travel on commuter trains and in long-distance trains to any place of treatment will remain. A total of ten billion rubles will be allocated for sanatorium and health resort treatment benefits. This money will be enough to cover a million people, while today only 220,000 vouchers are provided for this purpose annually. The minister said that the government would make extra monthly additions to pensions paid to those entitled to benefits under federal legislation. Work to draw up a nation-wide register of benefit recipients will begin this week. \"No one\'s rights will be infringed upon,\" Zurabov emphasized. It will be recalled that the State Duma adopted in a first reading a package of bills to \"monetarize\" the benefits. The majority of these documents concern replacing existing benefits in-kind with cash.

Thanks, but with Yuri's correction, I had to change from monetize to monetarize, two different meanings.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer.
