Each year, the Russian government's Cinema Fund allocates some money for films with socially relevant subject matter. I'm wondering if KudoZzers can come up with anything nicer than MY turn of phrase to sum up this laudable goal. My problem with "socially relevant", in a nutshell: "Mallrats" was unquestionably 'socially relevant', but the Russian "Mallrats" will never get state support. Ya dig?

: This is not true - depends on the usage (and meaning) of "which". You would not use a comma here in BE either (this is a relative clause). To make it shorter, you can say "content important for". Please review restrictive and non-restrictive clauses.

Deepa Mehta, a Director for Social Change
It is hard to find a director that epitomizes the idea that film can be both highly watchable and yet raise social consciousness on key issues better than Deepa Mehta. Not only does Mehta hit upon the poignant issues of human rights, poverty, nationalism, religious persecution, and sexual identity, her films are also well acted and filled with flawless cinematography. The ones she is most known for is her trilogy of Fire, Earth, and the critically acclaimed Water.
