The accident was due to a motor vehicle collision

дорожно-транспортное происшествие is usually translated as a "traffic accident" or "road accident" but to avoid saying "accident" twice I have phrased it as a "motor vehicle collision", something you often hear on the news in Canada, especially in winter
Peer comment(s):

agree Alexander Kayumov : Rethought my earlier comment. :) I believe MVC (MVA in the US) works for all kinds of road accidents, be it just cars or cars and pedestrians, as long as at least one of the parties was indeed a motor vehicle (but wouldn't work for a bike and a person).

The disaster/injury/casualty/mishap occurred as a result of road-accident

OR

IMO, it can be some sort of mishap (fatality, injury etc) depending upon the context.

Russian term (edited): дорожно-транспортное происшествие

traffic incident / traffic collision / motor vehicle collision

1) The accident / injury / death (смотря что конкретно произошло) was a result of a traffic incident / traffic collision / motor vehicle collision.

Lots of choices, really, even if one has to avoid the word "accident".

2) But one can perhaps also rephrase the sentence and just say:

This was a motor vehicle accident (MVA) / traffic accident / road traffic injury.

using terms describing the nature of the sustained injury itself without referring to the road accident separately.
