pensieri che volevano essere scavati dalle rocce

Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature short story
More text:

“Certo,” tornai a ripetere.

some great truth that was waiting to be discovered

'scavati' dalle rocce in the sense that 1) the thoughts are currently hidden, buried and 2) they will be some great, momentous truth.

I detect an element of Moses and the Ten Commandments, possibly ironic.

thoughts that appeared to be extracted from the rock itself.

"...that might shed light on thoughts that appeared to be extracted from the rock itself."
Precious thoughts like gemstones or gold nuggets, is perhaps the idea.

thoughts that wanted to be dug out of from the rocks

... literally ...
Peer comment(s):

agree Valentina Sessa : Literal but true... The speaker want to express his thougts, but have some kind of unconscius block that makes it necessary to dug them out from the roks of his mind.

neutral fionn : Agree, except it's either 'dug out of the rocks' or 'dug out from the rocks', not both!

thoughts waiting for my digging them out of the rocks

I don't think that the hidden meaning of the sentence should be made explicit. Rather, I prefer to retain the original structure, as long as English allows.
