Что-то никак не подобрать подходящего соответствия. + нужно обязательно во множественном числе:
Жители города - абсолютно самодостатоные личности.
Просьба не предлагать всякие там self-reliant, self-sufficient, self-sufficing и т.д., так как на мой взгляд все это не очень подходит, как не передает в полной мере смысл русского слова "самодостаточный" (т.е. полностью органичный сам в себе и не зависящий от чужого мнения)
Заранее спасибо!

If you want something different to the words you list, more context would be helpful.
I did somewhere come across a phrase which read something like: "the inhabitants of the village were quite independent people, strong in mind, vision and body." I am not suggesting that this will necessarily fit your context but it might be helpful to generate some ideas.

"Independent" звучит отлично, но имхо, если хочется чего-то особенного, то мне очень понравилось autonomous.
