Selected
a third, a sixth or an octave apart
in thirds, sixths or octaves
Explanation:
"по желанию можно исполнить также гамму двойными нотами в терцию, сексту и октаву, а также на три октавы"
also play a scale a third, a sixth or an octave apart (own choice), also for three octaves

In response to Jill I will add that I assumed this was a piano or keyboard exam (two notes to be played simultaneously) and looked at the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music exam syllabus for piano Grade 7 (to be found on this page http://www.abrsm.org/?page=exams/gradedMusicExams/latestSyll...
The syllabus refers to "scales a third apart, both hands together". Further down the page there is mention of "staccato scale in sixths hands separately" which I took to mean, in C major, C A, D B, etc played sequentially as single notes.

This was my initial reaction, too, but please see explanatory note and references added to my original answer.

Comment: "Thanks v much"
3 mins
in the third (terce), sixth and eighth (octave)
59 mins
the third, the sixth and the octave
using the third the sixth and the octave as double notes
... more context could be helpful.

23 hrs
in thirds, sixths or octaves
more commonly used, as music terminology, than "a third apart" (sounds better if you say, "with two voices, a third apart"), direct translation of в терцию

Many thanks
