Hello everybody,
I'm answring here even though my PRO-level points are quite ridiculous compared with yours... I do believe there is nobody out there who would like to be tracking my answers, but the very idea that I am subject to this is not comfortable. Moreover because I knew about this feature by chance.

Hello everybody,
I'm answring here even though my PRO-level points are quite ridiculous compared with yours... I do believe there is nobody out there who would like to be tracking my answers, but the very idea that I am subject to this is not comfortable. Moreover because I knew about this feature by chance.

My choice is # 2.

I think it's the easiest and most respectful one. Alternatively, what if the site would do like Facebook does? When I'm asked friendship there, I receive an email and can accept or refuse it. What if "tracking" would work like this? Somebody wants to track me and my answers, I receive an alert and I can confirm or not.
I am sorry if such a suggestion has already been made, didn't found anything similar!

Thanks Attila Mar 27, 2009

Thanks for posting, Attila.

To gather additional data, I also posted a survey. It will appear on the home page to people who have KudoZ points. (I wanted to get feedback specifically from people who answer KudoZ questions.) I invite those who have posted here (and have KudoZ points) to complete it.

I'll post the results here in a few days.

Thank you, Henry,
for putting together the survey so quickly, and adding some extra questions. They will certainly provide useful insight.

In its current form (see below), I do not see how the options #1 and #2 would be distinguished. Perhaps if two additional questions were added that would focus on proposals #1 and #2 individually -- exactly the same way as Question 9 focuses on option #3, you would get a more differentiated opinion. This is particularly important, since it seems from the first couple of answers in this thread that these are the two top choices.

The feedback to the present thread is very transparent: seeing the names next to the opinions may give some extra insight / food for thought for those who have not replied yet. Please keep them coming!

1. A feature was proposed, and then implemented, to allow interested parties to be notified when a given person posts a KudoZ answer. Were you aware of this feature prior to today?

Yes
No

2. Is it possible that you would have any interest in using this feature? Do you use KudoZ?

No - and I do use KudoZ
No - and I don't use KudoZ
Yes (and yes)
Maybe (and yes)

3. If your answer was 'yes' or 'maybe', what sort of answerers would you consider tracking? (Check all that apply.)

People whose answers I generally like
People whose answers I generally do not like
My friends
Other

4. Even though all KudoZ answers are publicly accessible, concerns have been raised by some site users about the effect on privacy of enabling users to be notified of other users' postings. What do you think?

I agree - the possibility to track is definitely an invasion of answerer privacy
I disagree - the possibility to track is not an invasion of answerer privacy
I don't have strong feelings either way

5. If you do have concerns about privacy, would the ability for an answerer to opt out of being tracked allay your concerns?

Yes
No - even then, there is the risk of privacy problems

6. Assuming the feature is not removed, would you like to be informed of the fact that someone is tracking your answers?

Yes - this would be very important to me
Sure - it would be nice to know
I don't need to know

7. Again assuming the feature is not removed, would it be important to you to know exactly who is being notified of your answers?

Yes - this would be very important to me to know exactly who
Sure - it would be nice to know exactly who
I don't need to know

8. Would knowing that your identity would be disclosed to an answerer discourage you from tracking some or all answerers?

Yes - In that case, I would decline to track certain answerers
Yes - In that case, I would decline to track any answerer
No, it would not prevent me from tracking answerers.

9. Putting the above together: would you be IN FAVOR or OPPOSED to the existence of this feature in the following form: tracking is possible, but the site names of those tracking are made available to answerers being tracked AND all answerers have the option to opt out of being tracked -- but by default can be tracked.

In favor
Opposed
Not sure / don't care

10. Thank you for completing this survey. If you have any other comments in relation to this feature, please add them here.

First choice #4 (it is merely automation of something that it is already possible to achieve manually)

Other choices - meh.

(Pro points 2,293)

Edit: Having now seen the survey, I should add I am OK with the feature as it is now. It just makes it easier to get info that already exists.
However, if that "identity" stuff the survey talks about - knowing the names of those hanging on your every word, and so on - was added, this would be new and, I feel,

Preferably #2
Also acceptable #1 or #4
Not #3

Pro points: 2198

I use filtering more... and prefer nobody to know about it!
I use it only for a couple of people whom I find annoying, my problem, not theirs. I forget they exist and leave them alone

Whatever you do, please don't change that feature!
