Additional comment on the Survey Mar 27, 2009

Question #8 is faulty: it should have one more choice: "I do not want to use tracking". Unless this answer is added, people who answered "No" to Question 2 would not be able to select a logical answer for Question 8.
Thanks
Katalin

Agree, having no other choice to clearly state that I have no wish to use any tracking, I have added it in the free text box.

I agree with Katalin. I left question 8 unanswered because there was no answer I could give and like Giuliana, I also stated in the text box that I was not interested in tracking anyone or in being tracked.

Privacy is a paramount value on ProZ.com Mar 27, 2009

Let's not do anything to lessen the protection we enjoy on this Site.

Preferences:

#1 Scrap it from public use

#2 is also acceptable (but I don't see much point to it)

I am categorically opposed to #3 and #4.

I can't find Henry's poll. ??? Mar 27, 2009

Since I've been answering KudoZ questions since their inception, I'm puzzled that I can't locate that poll. Has it disappeared again already?

Thanks for posting, Attila.

To gather additional data, I also posted a survey. It will appear on the home page to people who have KudoZ points. (I wanted to get feedback specifically from people who answer KudoZ questions.) I invite those who have posted here (and have KudoZ points) to complete it.

I'll post the results here in a few days.

Thanks for the feedback on the survey, folks. I'll make the change.

As for the new thread you opened up, no offense, Attila, but I would not like to encourage people to discuss the survey while it is underway, for obvious reasons.

If anyone has any additional feedback on the survey, please submit it via a support ticket.

The results of the survey are predictable Mar 27, 2009

While I appreciate the idea of posting a survey (I already completed it to my dissatisfaction), most of the questions lack objectivity (impartiality), e.g. "6. Assuming the feature is not removed, would you like to be informed of the fact that someone is tracking your answers?" should be followed by a question such as "6. Assuming the feature is removed... That would give participants a real choice.

The subjective type of questions (by the way, the survey is not detailed enough to be representative) makes me think that a decision has already been taken (i.e. not to remove the flagging feature at all) behind the scenes. Asking twice "Assuming the feature is not removed..." indicates that removing the feature is almost excluded.

I understand that your developers spent much time on implementing this feature, but how many people did you ask prior to implementing it?

I am categorically opposed to the violation of (my) privacy!

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. I would kindly ask that you not discuss the survey while it is underway, as that would tend to influence the outcome.

We can get rid of it -- what I am trying to determine is whether or not anything can be retained Mar 27, 2009

italengger wrote:

Actually, not so much time. Getting rid of it is a definite option. (Even if a lot of time had been spent on it, getting rid of it would be an option.)

Ideally, what is valuable can be retained, while what is problematic or objectionable can be corrected. This is in line with part of the site's guiding principles, namely that "Choice is paramount". Which is to say, it is generally a goal to give each user the maximum degree of control over his/her workplace experience.

To see the guiding principles, click About in the main menu, and then "Guiding principles" on the left.

What could be asked? :-) Mar 27, 2009

italengger wrote:

What could one realistically ask about a feature that would, under the question's starting hypothesis, not exist?

I am categorically opposed to the violation of (my) privacy!

Yeah, I keep hearing this. Unless I am missing something, the information concerned - kudoz answers and comments - is already in the public domain. Anyone who wants to can see it already.
I could very well be looking at certain profiles regularly, and/or receiving emails about questions in certain people's fields, and/ore refreshing the questions list every 15 minutes, simply to see if certain people have said anything new or interesting.
All that is being added at this stage is easier access to the same information. Or have I missed something?
