Features
• The construction and operation of the 2.3 xxx xxx Turbo engine is essentially carried over from that of the xxx xxx and has the following features:
– L-type engine with balancer shaft and variable valve timing system
– Oil pressure switch connected to the BCM (Body Control Module) (refer to section 09, Instrumentation/Driver Info)
– Turbocharger with fixed geometry turbine and boost pressure control valve with pressure actuator
– Turbocharger with reduced turbine discharge area for vehicles with ATX (Automatic Transaxle)
– Charge-air cooler and charge-air bypass valve
– Charge-air cooler duct located on top of the engine
– Electronic throttle valve
– VSC system (Variable Swirl Control)
– Returnless, demand-controlled fuel system with fuel pump resistor
Fuel Injectors
• On the xx-x the fuel injectors are directly driven by the PCM. The module has a high-voltage generator inside, which amplifies the battery voltage into a high voltage of approx. 70 V and stores it in a capacitor. A control circuit outputs the high voltage to the fuel injectors as a drive signal.
• For safety reasons, the PCM also controls the power supply of the PCM-internal injector control via the fuel injector relay.
Cooling Fan
• Due to the high power output of the cooling fan motors (240 W per motor) the xx-x features one fan control module per motor.
• The current flowing through the stator coil of each cooling fan motor and hence the fan speed varies depending on the duty signal from the fan control module, which in turn depends on the duty signal from the PCM.
• The PCM also controls the power supply of the fan control modules via the cooling fan relays no.1 and no.2.
• The PCM controls each fan control module by a duty signal 0 V/5 V. The speed of each cooling fan motor is proportional to the duty ratio, i.e. the larger the duty ratio the higher the fan speed. The duty ratio output from the PCM depends on the engine coolant temperature and the A/C load (Air Conditioning) (the latter one is derived from the refrigerant pressure switch).
• Due to the higher number of fan blades on cooling fan no.2 (7 blades compared to 5 blades on cooling fan no.1), the duty ratio output from the PCM to fan control module no.2 is always higher than that output to fan control module no.1.

– Σύστημα VSC (Variable Swirl Control - Έλεγχος μεταβλητού στροβιλισμού)
– Ανεπίστροφο σύστημα τροφοδοσίας καυσίμου που ελέγχεται από τις ανάγκες τροφοδοσίας, με αντιστάτη της αντλίας καυσίμου
Μπεκ ψεκασμού
• Στο xx-x, τα μπεκ ψεκασμού ελέγχονται απευθείας από την PCM. Η μονάδα περιλαμβάνει μια γεννήτρια υψηλής τάσης, η οποία ενισχύει την τάση της μπαταρίας σε υψηλή τάση με τιμή περίπου 70 V και την αποθηκεύει σε έναν πυκνωτή. Το κύκλωμα ελέγχου διοχετεύει την υψηλή τάση προς τα μπεκ ψεκασμού ως σήμα λειτουργίας.

Ανεμιστήρας ψύξης
• Λόγω της υψηλής αποδιδόμενης ισχύος των μοτέρ ανεμιστήρων ψύξης (240 W σε κάθε μοτέρ), το xx-x διαθέτει μία μονάδα ελέγχου ανεμιστήρα σε κάθε μοτέρ.
• Το ρεύμα που διαρρέει την περιέλιξη του στάτορα του κάθε μοτέρ ανεμιστήρα ψύξης και, επομένως, οι στροφές του ανεμιστήρα μεταβάλλονται ανάλογα με το σήμα λειτουργίας που στέλνει η μονάδα ελέγχου ανεμιστήρα, το οποίο με τη σειρά του εξαρτάται από το σήμα λειτουργίας που στέλνει η PCM.
• Επίσης, η PCM ελέγχει την τροφοδοσία ρεύματος στις μονάδες ελέγχου ανεμιστήρων μέσω των ρελέ ανεμιστήρων ψύξης αρ. 1 και 2.
• Η PCM ελέγχει κάθε μονάδα ελέγχου ανεμιστήρα μέσω ενός σήματος λειτουργίας 0 V/5 V. Οι στροφές σε κάθε μοτέρ ανεμιστήρα ψύξης είναι ανάλογες με το λόγο λειτουργίας, δηλαδή όσο μεγαλύτερος είναι ο λόγος λειτουργίας τόσο υψηλότερες είναι οι στροφές του ανεμιστήρα. Ο λόγος λειτουργίας που αποδίδει η PCM, εξαρτάται από τη θερμοκρασία του ψυκτικού υγρού στον κινητήρα και το φορτίο A/C (Air Conditioning - Σύστημα κλιματισμού) (το δεύτερο προκύπτει από το διακόπτη πίεσης ψυκτικού μέσου).
• Λόγω του μεγαλύτερου αριθμού των πτερυγίων του ανεμιστήρα ψύξης αρ. 2 (7 πτερύγια αντί 5 του ανεμιστήρα ψύξης αρ. 1), ο λόγος λειτουργίας που αποδίδει η PCM στη μονάδα ελέγχου ανεμιστήρα αρ. 2 είναι πάντοτε υψηλότερος από αυτόν που αποδίδεται στη μονάδα ελέγχου ανεμιστήρα αρ. 1.
