Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday I came across with a really weird .doc file. The file contains words and paragraphs highlighted with red dashed line which rotates clockwise. A screenshot:

I Googled a lot, checked all the hidden functions of my Word 2010, asked more experienced DTP specialists, without avail.

The most frustrating thing in it is that Trados Studio 2011 does not import the file, stating it contains non accepted changes, which is not true. I believe this error is related to the red markings of the source file.

Have you seen such markings?

All inputs/hints are welcome.

Regards,

Gyula

Select all text. Remove style.

Could it be... Nov 6, 2012

Text Effects feature in Word? Go to Format > Font > Text Effects and check if Marching Red Ants is selected. If yes, select (none)

Update:
Sorry, didn't notice you had Word 2010. I have 2003, so I guess the path might be a bit different

Remove style removes everything Nov 6, 2012

That will work, but will remove everything else as well: bold, bulleted lists etc.

Text effects no longer available in Word 2007/2010 Nov 6, 2012

Text effects are no longer available in Word 2007/2010, as explained here:

It is possible to selectively remove them in Word 2010, via a macro. No built-in command will allow you to do it, though other commands can be used to remove all or part of the formatting.

Too bad that simple things are now made complicated...

Only Wordfast Classic users had a need for marching red ants, and they can still use one of the other two untranslatable attributes. If they really want to keep marching red ants in Word 2007/2010, it's quite easy to record a macro in Word 2003 and use it in newer versions of Word. What were you using text effects for?

A misunderstanding :) Nov 6, 2012

I didn't use them at all. What I meant was that it's too bad that simple functions like removing such text styles are not available in the latest Word versions and you have to use more complicated solutions to get rid of them.

P.S. Sorry for the off-topic. I however hope that the OP did get a useful information on what to do with the unwanted formatting.
As regards the Trados problem, removing such formatting might help, but there are a few more options to try (you can search the forums) or someone can explain them to you (I don't quite remember how to do it, but I am sure I have seen similar topics a lot here)

Ants?? Nov 7, 2012

So I have got ants in my document. Fine.

I managed to eliminate them one by one with the format painter function of MS Word.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,

Gyula

Try this Nov 7, 2012

Try going to "borders and shading", see if there is a border and delete it. When you insert a border in text where the lines are separated by 'enter', each line will get its own border.
