pringkipissa / vassilopoula

There are two translations for the word "princess".
In Greek the word "πριγκήπισσα" [pringkipissa] is used both in fairy tales and in real life when indicating the wife of a prince (like: pringkipissa Diana, NOT: vassilopoula !)
The word "βασιλοπούλα" is used mostly in fairy tales, and its meaning, literary, is the following: "child of a king".
If a man wants to say "princess" to the woman of his dreams, he will use the word "pringkipissa".

Have fun with these royalties!

βασιλοπούλα, βασιλοκόρη

Βασιλοπούλα (vassilοpoula)

It's a Greek compound that contains a part of the Greek word for "king" (vasilias, vasilo-) and the form -poula which is also Greek and when used give to the word the notion of something small or the notion of a child (a daughter or a son...). The form -poula (or the masculine -poulos) can be found in a great number of Greek names.

Βασιλοκόρη (vassilokori)
Another compound containing again the Greek word for "king" and the word "kori" (young girl, daughter).

Αρχοντοπούλα

We call "Arhontopoula" a young lady of noble rank. If the word "princess" does not refer to a real King's daughter and it's just a character pointer, use it. Not that we don't use it for a princess, but it's a more popular word that people in villages use most when the girl is from a big (rich) family.
