It depends on the country and on the length of the project. I wouldn’t leave my long-standing customers for a single project. I’m a widow and my children are all grown-up and they have long left the nest (in actual fact, one has temporarily returned)...

I had a client who sent me on trips regularly (not frequently). When I applied for and got the contract it seemed to be a dream job, but turned out to be not so much :/
I most definitely enjoyed the experience of being in another country/culture, but the time spent travelling (two days out and two days back for a five day stay in-country) was a chore.
Would I apply again for this sort of thing? I think that would depend on how frequent the travel and how well-paid the work ....

I would not travel | Jun 29, 2017 |
It would not be a dream job if it meant I had to travel! I work best at home.
That is heartfelt after several delightful weeks visiting family and old haunts and Northumberland at its loveliest... It is a dream holiday, but being home is wonderful after it all!

...that would mean that all the circumstances were right, wouldn't it?
I'd be off immediately, then...
Spanish Caribbean, Central America, what's not to like?

Only happened to me once, in 2008. Was offered three weeks in Paris on a technical job about aircraft manuals. I took it and had a great time.

But a dream job would be a project after which I can stop working. Forever.
Otherwise it's just a job.

... And I did in 2012 to Côte d'Ivoire. Just 7-10 days with two more colleagues from two universities to teach translation at a private school in Abidjan. I had a great time, I learnt a lot... and I ate excellent meals! I discovered Alpha Blondie too (great reggae music). Sometimes, when the weather is cloudy, hot and dry in Madrid, it reminds me of CI and my students...

Depends on which country | Jun 29, 2017 |
but I don't have such dream jobs. My best dream job I already have - from home.

I think I'd draw the line at North Korea, and maybe one or two others!

Having seen how visitors are treated on arrival by security, I don't fancy visiting the US nowadays. Nor am I keen to visit countries I perceive as unstable, where I might become a target simply by dint of coming from a developed Western country. However, a friend of mine who works in education has no such qualms...
For now, I'm just happy working from home where the biggest threat to my physical integrity is garden wasps...
Where?
how long?
money?
first reaction is: family is more important.. but let's talk about money...

depends on the country of course. I'd be happy to go mostly anywhere in Europe or Asia except of course for Belarus and North Korea.
also depends how long for. I wouldn't be happy to abandon my well-paying clients for whom I even do little bits when on holiday, so I'd have to be able to still do other jobs on the side. I wouldn't want to miss out on seeing my kids when they turn up, and I do miss my partner when we're apart for over a week.

if it were a dream job, it would be in a warm country and would leave me plenty of free time and would be well paid enough for my partner to come along too!
