Regardless of this issue, it is extremely challenging to get a single job in this site.
I subscribed and was guaranteed to receive translation work or been refunded in full. I kept applying for a year.... No work and no refund.
Did you ask for a refund?

Never accept proofreading without seeing a sample.
I have accepted proofreading jobs in the past without seeing a sample. Fortunately, only one "bad" job comes to mind - an impossibly poorly translated text (Chinese to English) from a Hong Kong-based vendor who had provided only top quality legal text until this job arrived. It is a good practice, I think, to take a look before accepting.

Your statement may be true, but depends on what character you left out in above "Peis", so that we can grasp the entire meaning of your statement: character "r" or "n"?

Rate per volume? | Feb 24, 2020 |
I was aslked to put a rate per volume and was a bit surprised, because I have never been asked this before. What is this? Is it a minimum fee? | | | Lingua 5B Βοσνία και Ερζεγοβίνη Local time: 22:18 Μέλος από 2009 Αγγλικά σε Κροατικά + ... Ask the client. | Feb 24, 2020 |

Maybe I ask your client what they mean by that. It may be a flat rate for certain amount or most likely a certain per word rate for certain volume (for instance, they may expect a cheaper per word rate for large volume, as if we are selling apples as a wholesaler). | | | Paul Dixon Βραζιλία Local time: 18:18 Πορτογαλικά σε Αγγλικά + ... The problem is that the translation profession in Brazil is not yet regulated, so anyone who has spent a day or two in Disney thinks he/she can translate. Many people try translation as a 'fill-in' activity after being made redundant in other jobs, in the wake of the Brazilian crisis and/or the coronavirus outbreak. For this reason, market regulation is essential here, to uphold good quality and reasonable rates. One person even said: 'I'll try translation for a week or two, so I can get money to study in Europe'. Market regulation would be excellent, as it would direct the market at Translation graduates or at people who are specialised in another area but who have taken a test on translation skill and/or are certified by ATA, ITI, ABRATES, ITA etc. Another point - why doesn't the form accept '0' in the 'weeks of holiday' column? The situation here is so bad that no-one can afford a holiday... ▲ Collapse | | | Current rate per word to charge for a translation | Apr 24, 2020 |

See more Hello everyone, (First of all I do apologize if this is not posted in the correct place!) I am perplexed about ProZ's own guide to translation rates (per word) >> https://search.proz.com/employers/rates. I am an independent translator and I am wondering if the rates in the link are up to date? It seems they have not been changed in the several years that I have used ProZ, and 11 cents per word seems a bit low. Consulting other sites I see figures of 15 cents and upwards per word. My current project is Italian to English, just under 4,000 words, and the topic is very complex (philosophical assessment of a work by Freud). I am spending quite a bit of time to familiarize myself with the material and I would like to charge my client more than 11 cents per word.
Any thoughts and input are welcome! Thank you ▲ Collapse

Surely the rate (per words) is different, if the job is subtitleling or translating a plain text (for example synopses)? | | | Fatima Paula Βραζιλία Local time: 18:18 Αγγλικά σε Πορτογαλικά
It is not easy to begin even though you are an experienced translator. But never work for next to nothing. We have our rates and, yes, we have to stick to them. The problem is how to show your quality to the agencies.
