And so far, so do our colleagues, according to the poll results.
I do like having a long-term project with a comfortable deadline and in parallel handling a good bunch of shortish jobs, but in fact the size does not matter as much as the subject and the quality of the original.
I take on all kinds of projects: large, medium, small. I guess almost every freelancer does. Interestingly, over the years I have come to the realisation that I am most comfortable with small to medium sized jobs because they are usually the most interesting to me. I work exclusively in medical and pharmaceutical fields, and large assignments tend to be dry and more technical, while small and medium projects tend to involve patient-facing and marketing materials. What should I answer on the poll? What would my fellow ProZians consider big or small jobs?

For me, the optimal is to have a huge project going on with a comfortable deadline that allows me to take on some medieum sized projects, and to vary all this with tiny projects during the day. | | | expressisverbis Πορτογαλία Local time: 15:45 Μέλος από 2015 Αγγλικά σε Πορτογαλικά + ... About 5000 words per week regularly would be sufficient to me, if the rate is good. Is the job size medium?
Medium and a few small ones on the side.
But of course we may have different perceptions of small, medium and large.
For me it would be:
Min. fee 10-200 w
Small project 200 - 1,500 w
Medium 1,500 - 7,000 w
Large 7,000-20,000 w
Very large >20,000 w | | | Mr. Satan (X) Αγγλικά σε Ινδονησιακά

Don’t tell me... they haven’t offered you that one million words crap, have they? | | | Justin Peterson Ισπανία Local time: 16:45 Μέλος από 2007 Ισπανικά σε Αγγλικά Where is the "Huge" option? | Aug 23, 2022 |
Books have been my favorite translations: they're challenging, gratifying, and, of course, lucrative.

I mean reasonably large projects that come from clients and/or agencies I work, that keep my brain working, and pay me the rates I offer them on time.
To me, and to tell you the truth, sometimes it's not so much the quantity that matters, but the quality, meaning a good and long-lasting relationship between clients and me where we are both happy with service and payment.
That crap you are referring to or a similar one goes directly to the bin without even being read.
I consider myself a very selective and careful person. | | | Philip Lees Ελλάδα Local time: 17:45 Ελληνικά σε Αγγλικά Size is not important | Aug 24, 2022 |

Is you last name Thumb?
I don't rate jobs by size so much as type of text, content, how much I like the client, etc. My work encompasses texts ranging from a few sentences up to 40 pages or more, but I wouldn't say I have a general preference for any part of that range. | | | Kay Denney Γαλλία Local time: 16:45 Γαλλικά σε Αγγλικά
I like a big job that'll keep me busy for several weeks, but on a comfortable deadline that means I can fit other stuff in, to keep me from getting bored (because even the most fascinating subject can get boring if I only work on that for weeks on end) and also to keep my direct clients happy, because I know most of them don't have an alternative translator. I can always recommend a colleague to them, but I much prefer to handle their translations myself. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: In general, the job size I prefer is: Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
