If you want to make sure your personal information is not stored when you save a Word document, you can click on the Tools menu and choose Options. Click on the Security tab and then choose the "Remove personal information from this file on save" option and then click OK. This is particularly important if you are attaching the document to an email message.
Automatically add captions - Word 2000, 2002 and Word X for Macintosh
You can easily add captions to tables, graphics, controls or other features in a Word document. From the Insert menu choose Reference and then choose Caption. Click on AutoCaption. From the list displayed, select each caption you require and the corresponding cation text and numbering type. Now, whenever you insert one of these objects, your captions will be inserted automatically. If you want to change the formatting of the captions, simply change the style.
Replacing hyphens with em dashes - Word 2000, 2002 and Word X for Macintosh
If you receive a document where the author has used hyphens instead of em dashes, it is easy to replace them with the classier em dashes. Choose Replace from the Edit menu and click on More. In the Find what field type a space followed by a hyphen followed by another space (you don’t want to replace normal hyphens separating words).
In the Replace with field type a space then choose the em dash from the Special menu and then type another space. Click on Replace all and the em dashes will be inserted replacing the hyphens.
Displaying the Word Count - Word 2000, 2002 and Word X for Macintosh
If you want to continually display the word count for your document, but don’t want to write a macro to do it, the solution is very simple. All you have to do is right-click in the toolbar area and display the Word Count toolbar. As you type, the word count is not displayed, but all you have to do is hold down Shift + Ctrl and press the letter R and the new number is displayed.

This is a useful trick if you have a very long table containing lots of data. To search for particular information in the table click in it then display the Database toolbar. Click on the Find Record button and the Find in Field dialog box is displayed allowing you to enter what you are searching for and the field in which to find it.
Finding formatting inconsistencies - Word 2000, 2002 and Word X for Macintosh
If you have received a document that has been created using styles but the person has been lazy in their application, you can quickly check to see if there are any formatting inconsistencies. Go to the Tools menu, choose Options and then click on the Edit tab. Select the Mark formatting inconsistencies option and click OK.
Any inconsistencies will now be underlined in blue making them easy to find. You can reset these by highlighting and pressing either Ctrl + Space for character formatting and Ctrl + Q for paragraph formatting.
